Japan’s Mizuho Bank has selected a range of products from IBM to launch application programming interface (API) banking.

The bank will leverage IBM Japan’s FinTech API solution, IBM API Connect on the IBM Cloud as well as IBM DataPower Gateway.

The vendor said that the shift to API banking will allow Mizuho to use personal financial management services from its business partners and offer customised internet-of things (IoT) payment services to clients.

Mizuho Bank senior technical officer Masahiko Kato said: “API banking becomes a crucial step that helps drive open innovations by new technologies for customers, business partners, and Mizuho Bank.

“Instead of competition, Mizuho continues to collaborate with business partners to create and provide innovative, secured services for customers.”
