United Overseas Bank Malaysia (UOB Malaysia) has temporarily shut down eight out of its total 45 branches across the country to curb the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19).
These eight branches are located in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Pahang, and Sabah, The Edge has reported.
The move is aligned with the bank’s strategy to balance essential banking services with ensuring the well-being of its customers and staff.
The branches will remain closed until the movement control order (MCO) period imposed by the federal government of Malaysia ends, the report added.
UOB Malaysia CEO Wong Kim Choong said: “To ensure our people and customers’ safety, we decided to close a number of branches with significantly reduced traffic since the MCO implementation.
“We are committed to serving customers through the MCO period and will continue providing essential banking services through our branches that remain open, as well as through our online and mobile banking platforms.
