The online banking platform of Costa Rica’s national bank, Banco Nacional, has been unavailable to consumers for over 48 hours.

After entering their identification number to access the online banking section of the site, users are receiving a "page cannot be found" error.

According to the Banco Nacional’s department of institutional relations, the issues have affected all transactions through their electronic channels but not affected the systems in their physical branches.

The department also confirmed there are currently no estimates of a specific date or time for when the online service will be restored.

Credit card customers using the platform at the bank with a payment date within the affected days will have their cancellation period extended so that users "do not fall into arrears".

"We decided to move the cut-off date for these users because they use the platform the most," the bank said in a statement.

The bank also confirmed the transfer of payment date applies only to credit card customers.

For customers who have to conduct other transactions, such as mortgage payments, the bank recommends they visit one of the 172 offices Banco Nacional has nationwide.
