Guaranty Trust Bank, Nigeria’s third largest bank by assets, has launched its ‘social banking’ service on social media site Facebook.
The new service allows the public to open GTBank accounts and receive customer service via the platform.
Nigeria has the largest Facebook following for any African bank, with over 1m ‘likes’ on the site.
Segun Agbaje, CEO of Guaranty Trust Bank, said the bank’s objective is to engage customers at work, home and one the move. The service will allow customers to perform transactions without exiting Facebook.
The bank aims to further the service by introducing money transfers, airtime purchases and bill payments.
GTBank recently introduced a mobile money application, which allows customers to perform transfers and payments to any mobile phone subscriber within the country.
