Paris-headquartered BNP Paribas, the second-largest bank in Belgium by assets, has partnered with Brussels-headquartered telecoms operator Belgacom to launch a mobile wallet service.
According to Belgacom, the Belgian Mobile Wallet will be an open system, giving access to smartphone users with a bank or credit card from any Belgian bank and a mobile data subscription from a Belgian mobile operator.
The platform will be provided by Brussels-based technology vendor Accenture.
The service will be trialled at the end of 2013 and a full roll-out is planned at the beginning of 2014.
