American Express (AmEx) has partnered with
location-based social network Foursquare in the UK, to enable
participants to check in to select merchant venues and collect
voucher-free special deals on purchases.

The UK partnership follows a similar deal
launched in the US in June 2011 between AmEx and Foursquare.

Participants need to use their physical credit card to qualify
for the Foursquare scheme. Customers will need no codes, coupons or
other tokens to redeem the offers, according to AmEx.

The savings will be credited to the
participants’ American Express accounts within five working
days.

For the UK launch, AmEx has reportedly secured
£10 and £5 discount deals with several high street retailers such
as Bella Italia, Cafe Rouge, Nando’s, PizzaExpress, Strada, Eat,
House of Fraser, Primark and Tesco, among others.

According to results of a 1000-people survey conducted by AmEx
in May, Vouchers have a strong market in the UK, with 28m people
regularly redeeming coupons, averaging £136 ($212) in discounts
annually.

Stacy Gratz, VP and head of digital partnerships at AmEx, said
that besides the offers, a main benefit for customers is the
“seamless” nature of the transaction this partnership aims to
offer, alongside the high levels of security that AmEx
assures.
