Westpac subsidiary St.George Bank has
become the first bank in Australia to launch an m-banking app for
the Blackberry Torch smart phone.
The BlackBerry app will complement
St.George’s existing m-banking apps for Apple’s iPhone, iPod Touch
and iPad.
“We’re really excited that we’ve already
created a mobile banking application for users of the Blackberry
Torch” said Dhiren Kulkarni, St.George Bank’s chief information
officer.
“Our customers make more than 280,000
financial transactions and more than a million inquiries every
month from their mobile devices. The uptake and acceptance of
mobile banking is very strong and we’re happy to add the BlackBerry
Torch 9800 to the growing list of mobile devices that can use our
m-banking apps.”
St.George has already signed up around
150,000 customers to its mobile banking service at a reported
investment of less than A$2m ($2m) to date on its m-banking
channel. It currently has around 1m active online banking
customers.
