Recently launched UK lender Metro Bank, has
further delayed the debut of its online channel.
Metro Bank co-founder Vernon Hill told
RBI on 30 July that the bank’s internet offering would be
up and running during the first week of August.
A spokewsoman for one of Metro’s leading IT partners told RBI on
12 August, that Metro’s web channel was now expected to be up
and running on or around 20 August.
In an interview with RBI’s sister
title Electronic
Payments International, Paul Love, a business solutions
consultant at banking technology vendor ACI Worldwide, described
Metro Bank’s decision to open its doors to customers without online
banking as “crazy”.
“It is a bit of an enigma why Metro Bank has
become much more branch focused in an age where branch banking is
in decline,” said Love.
The first Metro branch opened on 29 July, with
plans to open a further three – all in the London area – by the end
of the year.
