Bank of New Zealand (BNZ) has
announced plans for a massive branch overhaul that the bank says
will “transform” the way that it interacts with customers.
The “significant investment”,
reportedly costing NZ$100m ($71m), will involve the refurbishment
and some relocation of its 179-strong branch network over the next
two years.
The National Australia Bank-owned
lender will introduce technology such as video conferencing,
digital signage, free wi-fi and interactive touchscreens after
customer research showed client requirements had “changed
dramatically” over the last 20 years.
Some branches will also have a kids’
zone installed.
BNZ head of retail strategy Matt
Sale said: “The upgrade and relocation programme is a direct
response to what our customers want.
“This investment in New Zealand…
will also connect at a local community level to provide better
services and fees.”
But Sale said the bank would not neglect other distribution
channels including ATMs, telephone and online banking.
