A recently granted patent (Publication Number: US11988106B2) discloses a gas turbine design featuring a unique heat-protection element for the bearing chamber. The heat-protection element is designed to partially surround the bearing chamber and includes connecting portions, supporting portions, and an end portion. The design allows for a material-to-material bond with a protective element of a seal carrier, radial support on the bearing chamber, and contactless surrounding of the bearing chamber by the end portion. Additionally, the heat-protection element can be configured as a single piece, forming a heat-protection unit attachable to an axially forward flange portion of the bearing chamber, which can be slid onto or removed from the bearing chamber from an axially forward end.

Furthermore, the patent details various configurations and features of the heat-protection element, including circumferentially distributed connecting portions, radially inwardly formed corrugations serving as supporting portions, and a circumferential supporting portion contactable with an annular sealing device like a rope seal. The design also allows for the heat-protection element to be provided in the region of a turbine center frame or as part of a turbine center frame. Additionally, the patent covers variations of the gas turbine design, such as one including a carbon seal in the seal carrier and a standalone heat-protection element for a gas turbine with similar features as part of a heat-protection unit for a bearing chamber.
