RBS in discussions with Andy Murray to continue sponsorship

A source close to the bank said that RBS was in discussions about the next phase of the sponsorship. The contract between Murray, ranked 4th in the world, and RBS ended at the end of last year and Murray wore a t-shirt without the banks sponsorship patches during his matches in Australia earlier this week.

Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group eyes expansion in Asia

Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group, Japans second largest bank by market value, will expand its services to other Asian countries to attract affluent clients. The banks president, Teisuke Kitayama, said that the bank will primarily focus on retail banking services in China, Indonesia and Thailand. The bank, which already operates in Vietnam, said it is currently looking into opportunities in other Asian markets.

BBVA launches in-house iPad app for m-banking

BBVA Compass, US-based subsidiary of Spains second-largest lender, BBVA, has launched an iPad application, BBVA Compass Mobile Banking. The bank said that it had developed the application in house in order to offer greater flexibility and more functionality than its existing application. The BBVA Compass Mobile Banking app is an addition to the banks existing mobile banking apps for Android, Blackberry and iPhone smartphones.

Qatar National Bank upgrades eazypay m-payment service

Qatar National Bank (QNB) has expanded its mobile payment service, eazypay, to enable merchants to accept payments from customers via text message. Customers will need to register for the service over the phone and will then receive instructions to activate the eazypay service.

BBVA kicks off NBA sponsorship with commercial on 25 Dec

Spanish lender BBVA is to kick off its sponsorship of American basketball league NBA on Christmas Day, with a TV campaign titled TEAM.WORKS.. The new commercial will air during the NBAs five nationally televised games on 25 December, one of the most viewed days of games during the winter season. Ignacio Villoch, BBVAs manager for communication and branding, strategy and innovation, had last month told RBI that sports sponsorship was a key role in the banks customer-centric strategy.

SBI plans to grow retail business worldwide

State Bank of India (SBI) has announced that it wants to expand its retail banking business worldwide through organic and inorganic growth. The bank said it wants to generate a quarter of its total business revenues from its overseas network by 2013. The banks current overseas businesses contribute to 16% of the group revenues, up from 12% in the last year, spurred by the banks entry into the Singapore market.

RBC launches fully integrated m-banking service

The bank said that according to a recent survey by market research company Ipsos Reid on behalf of RBC, 44% of Canadians were interested in mobile banking. For 69%, convenience was the top priority to use m-banking service, but 24% stated that they were concerned about security in m-banking.

Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ opens retail branch in Hong Kong

Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ (BTMU) has opened its first retail banking branch in Hong Kong because of dreary business outlooks in its home market Japan. The bank said that the growing wealth in Hong Kong provided attractive business outlooks there. BTMU said that it will target Hong Kongs affluent retail banking customers with financial assets worth about 30m ($359,106).
