The industry’s overall hiring is decreased by 22.35% in December 2021 when compared with November 2021.
Out of the banking and payments industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 15.37% share in December 2021, recording an increase of 0.4% over the last three-month average share.

Top five banking and payments companies in South Africa’s IT recruitment activity in December 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 18.6% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of South Africa’s banking and payments industry during December 2021 over November 2021.
Sanlam posted 113 IT jobs in December 2021 and registered a rise of 11.88% over the previous month, followed by FirstRand with 48 jobs and a 40% drop. Discovery with 32 IT jobs and Nedbank Group with 28 jobs, recorded a 15.79% decline and a 6.67% decrease, respectively, while Absa Group recorded a decline of 53.85% with 24 job postings during December 2021.
Junior Level job postings dominate in December 2021
Junior Level jobs held a share of 63.86%, down by 22.88% from November 2021. Mid Level positions with a 31.58% share, registered an increase of 26.76% compared with the previous month.
In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 4.56% share, down 60.61% over November 2021.
