Absa Bank, South African financial services group and second largest bank in South Africa by assets, have launched a financial services app, aimed at individual and business customers.

Absa describe the app as the first real, native financial services app available on smartphones and tablets.

The software, which provides a built-in video tutorial, allows multiple users in a household to log onto one device, or one user to log into multiple devices.

Arrie Rautenbach, head of retail banking, Absa said: "The new technology incorporates many aspects of traditional banking services with smart device features such as your GPS location to allow for easy and instant search to the closest Absa branch or ATM."

The banking app also allows customers to send airtime and cash to their friends and family and is expected to introduce new features such as an image library every eight weeks.

Absa states that the app is the latest financial solution developed that rewards customers for an extended relationship with the bank following the bank’s 2012 launch of its Value Bundles and Potentiate offerings.
