Absa has opened what it has said will be a mostly paperless bank branch in the Hyde Park Corner shopping centre, Johannesburg.
Absa’s "branch of the future" will feature self service kiosks to shorten queues and no barriers between the customer and the teller.
Maria Ramos Absa group chief executive said: "I am proud to introduce this branch to our customers. It represents the new face of traditional banking. The result will be that we can deliver outstanding service to our customers, offering them an engagement that is faster and more efficient."
The Hyde Park branch is intended to be a template for future branches around South Africa.
At the branch all services can be carried out at the same counter, removing the need to queue more than once.
Ramos added: "We are proud to complement our digital offering with the Hyde Park branch that simplifies customers’ relationship with the bank and makes banking an easier and more enjoyable experience."
Earlier in the year Johannesburg headquartered Absa launched a fully functional mobile bank after a branch in the Eastern Cape was destroyed by fire.
Built in six weeks, Absa’s mobile ‘Branch-on-the-move’, serves as an emergency branch, moving to wherever it is required and does not have to be dissembled before being transported.
