Georgia-based consumer transaction technology provider NCR has announced the extension of its partnership with Finnish ATM network operator Automatia to upgrade 400 ATM machines to withstand the country’s blistering cold weather.

With temperatures reaching lows of -30ºC, Finland’s ATMs risk succumbing to electronic and electro-mechanical issues.

Under the agreement, NCR has developed for Automatia a custom ‘pressurisation kit’, capable of combating the effects of extreme cold, and dust, on the company’s ATMs.

The move will involve replacing 400 non-NCR ATMs, as well as 200 NCR ATMs from the US company’s Personas series, with 600 NCR SelfServ 25 and 26 ATMs.

According to NCR, the upgrade will result in increased availability and functioning of ATMs for consumers, allowing both Automatia and the retail banks it serves to grow their businesses more effectively.

Esa Makkonen, chief information officer at Automatia, said: "Finnish retail banks rely on Automatia to provide an up-to-date network of ATMs across the country."
