Bank of America (BofA) has selected Intel to introduce fingerprint-based authentication for its online banking services.

The bank will implement Intel Online Connect technology – which enables fingerprint touch payments – on its online banking platform.

The technology, which is available on later generation Intel Core processors, will store customer’s biometric data only on their device and not on a public server or cloud.

Bank of America, which will be the first bank to offer the technology to customers, intends to start offering this service at some point in 2018.

Bank of America head of digital banking Michelle Moore said: “As online and mobile banking usage continues to grow, we’re focused on implementing the latest technologies that will give our customers the best possible user experience.

“Biometrics can help us achieve that goal, and we’re excited to work with Intel to bring added convenience to our more than 34 million digital banking customers.”
