Computer giant Microsoft said it will discontinue software updates for Windows XP, prompting fears that ATMs at banks worldwide will be vulnerable to security threats.
After 8 April, many banks machines using the operating system will be open to any new viruses or other threats that could come after that time.

Approximately 29% of computers worldwide still use Windows XP and these machines could freeze or shut down, leaving customers in the lurch.
Nevertheless, Microsoft says that it has given due warning to businesses and spokesmen from the banks said that they are confident there will be no disruptions.
The firm also said that limited anti-malware support will continue until mid-2015.
Microsoft’s Malware Protection Centre recently stated: "Microsoft has announced the Windows XP end of support date of April 8, 2014.
