Barclays, the second-biggest UK bank by assets, has teamed up with telecoms provider BT to offer free public Wi-Fi in 1,500 of its UK branches.
According to BT, the service will enable Barclays’ customers to use any wireless PC, tablet or smartphone to connect to the internet, download mobile banking apps and access the website.
BT said the Wi-Fi service has been successfully implemented in over 800 branches so far and the roll-out was expected to be completed by April 2013.
The technology will be provided and managed by BT and customers will only have to click and accept the terms and conditions to connect to the service.
Ashok Vaswani, CEO, retail and business banking, Barclays, said one of the reasons for the new service was to allow staff to show customers how to use mobile apps.
He added: "We are always keen to show our customers how easy our mobile apps are to use, so we are now rolling out free Wi-Fi across our branches.
