BBVA Compass, the US subsidiary of Spain’s
BBVA, has announced the first of five winners in its Build My
Savings Account contest on Facebook. 

The bank launched its first context through
social networking site Facebook on 22 June to reward people for
setting savings goals.  

The latest Build My Savings Account campaign
has attracted about 750 customers vying for a $5000 prize. 
Winners are chosen on a combination of how compelling their savings
story is and visitor ratings. 

Facebook has become a popular marketing medium
for banks to reel in customers and boost their market share in
loans and deposits. 

Shelaghmichael Brown, head of retail banking
at BBVA Compass said: “Holding a contest through Facebook
represents what we will feel is a very important channel to
communicate with consumers and link them with others who share a
common goal or story.”

“The topic of savings… is certainly timely due
to today’s economic environment, and we have an impactful way to
engage customers while providing them a simplified savings process
that helps them realize their financial goals,” she
added.

The Build My Savings Account contest will run
until 16 October when the last of five winners will be chosen.

The account is a customizable savings account
that helps customers set and achieve financial goals. Customers who
stick to their savings plan receive a percentage match of their
transfers, up to $250 each year.
