Bendigo and Adelaide Bank has rolled out an
online social community site that allows users with a project plan
to connect with other people for support, resources and
expertise.

Bendigo, Australia’s seventh biggest retail
bank by deposits, said its PlanBig microsite, http://www.planbig.com/, had been
designed to capitalise on the strengths of social networking to
help create partnerships in the community.

PlanBig works in association with networking
websites Facebook and Twitter, allowing visitors and users to vote
and support different plans by signing up for progress
updates.

Plans range from a campaign to bring music
education to rural communities in Queensland to fundraising for a
horse rescue centre

“One day we hope that PlanBig will be part of
everyday life, a self-sustaining and self-moderating community that
is of real use to passionate people and real benefit to communities
with all kinds of plans, big or small,” the
statement said.

For the six months to 31 December, Bendigo
posted net profits of A$134.2 million ($118.9 million) up 23.2
percent from the corresponding period the previous year. Retail
deposits increased by 18.4 percent year-on-year to A$32.1 billion,
a market share of around 2.6 percent.
