France’s largest lender,
BNP Paribas (BNPP), wants to double its presence in Poland through
its local subsidiary within the next five years.

The head of BNPP’s
Polish unit, Frederic Amoudru, told French newspaper La
Tribune
that the bank’s focus will be to grow
organically.

BNPP currently has 240
branches in Poland and 400,000 clients in total and a retail
banking market share of around 2%.

Amadrou added that
BNPP’s Polish unit will focus on upping its cross-selling
metrics.

Notwithstanding
Amoudru’s comments about organic growth, BNPP was one of three
bidders last month – along with Italian lender Intesa Sanpaolo and
Austria-headquartered Raiffeisen – for Polbank, the Polish-based
subsidiary of Greece’s Eurobank EFG.

Polbank was established
in 2006 and has grown quickly: it is now the 8th largest
retail bank in Poland, with a 4.4% retail lending market share and
335 branches.
