In a world first, CaixaBank has launched ATMs that are able to use facial recognition so consumers can withdraw cash. The customer does not need to enter their PIN.
The new system is already available in four Store branches in Barcelona. This amounts to 20 terminals.
Furthermore, the intention is to offer a better user experience and greater security in transactions. The logic behind it is that it streamlines the customer ID process and makes withdrawal possible without memorising multiple passwords.
Also, the Spain-based bank intends to expand the CaixaBank facial recognition ATMs across its branches from the second half of 2019.
CaixaBank developed this project with Fujitsu and FacePhi. In addition, the system validates up to 16,000 points on the image of the user’s face.
However, the ATMs will still have the option of entering a PIN if that is the consumer’s choice.
