Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CommBank) has opened the Seattle Tech Hub in the US to enhance its AI capabilities and customer service delivery.

The Hub, which commenced operations this month, is said to be a “strategic gateway” for CommBank’s technology teams.

These teams will engage in a three-week exchange programme within the Seattle tech precinct, engaging in collaborative learning with industry giants such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Anthropic, H2O, and Microsoft.

AWS Agentic AI vice president Swami Sivasubramanian said: “As CommBank’s preferred cloud provider, we’re excited about the learning opportunities that their new Seattle Tech Hub will offer.

“I’m confident this move will not only give them access to the best industry talent, but also bring our teams closer as we continue to scale AI innovations globally.”

The first group of CommBank technologists at the Seattle Tech Hub is working on expediting the adoption of Agentic AI and Gen AI-driven tools.

These advancements are aimed at assisting small business banking customers in managing their finances and operating their businesses.

The cohort is also tasked with modernising testing processes to respond to customer feedback more swiftly.

CommBank CEO Matt Comyn said: “As the rate of global innovation continues to accelerate, we increasingly believe that the bank’s technology leadership will continue to provide a strong foundation to CommBank’s strategic performance and competitive advantage.

“Technology delivers superior customer experiences to our 16 million customers, which is at the core of our strategy to be tomorrow’s bank today.”

Recently, CommBank expanded its partnership with Anthropic to accelerate AI adoption.
