The lenders will be able to challenge the user with Strong Customer Authentication if a CNP transaction meets the risk criteria.

The card payment industry developed 3 Domain Secure (3DS) specification in a bid to increase security, without adversely affecting the consumer experience.

Designed to boost the transactions, the joint solution works in accordance with PSD2 compliance criteria for payments in Europe.

Netcetera Management Team Secure Digital Payments Christian Waldvogel said: “The combination of our technologies enables consumers, merchants and banks to rest easier knowing that potentially fraudulent transactions are being spotted and challenged.

“By partnering with Entrust, we are supporting the global shift to ecommerce channels by improving confidence in online purchases with a high performing and reliable system.”

Entrust provides a spectrum of 3DS and PSD2 compliant authenticators to help financial firm offer the best authentication experience to consumers.

Authenticators include Mobile Smart Credential, Mobile Smart Token, Challenge Response Token, Camera Token, and SMS DL OTP.

Commenting on the partnership, Entrust Identity Solutions vice-president and general manager James LaPalme said: “With global e-commerce transaction growth expected to surpass 20% in 2020, there has been a corresponding surge in digital payments adding to the number of fraudulent CNP transactions.

“By partnering with Netcetera, we can more effectively stop fraud before it happens by providing step-up authentication and give consumers the trust they need at the time of conducting the transaction.”

In August last year, Mastercard partnered with Netcetera to roll out a 3DS testing platform to help retailers and other businesses comply with Payment Services Directive 2 (PSD2).
