Erste Bank, has entered into an
agreement with OMV, the Austrian oil and gas group to boost its
customer base and branch network. Erste customers will be able to
top up their card as well as fill up with fuel as part of a launch
of 170 new “banking stops” at Austria’s OMV petrol stations.

“The partnership is designed to
help us become the largest financial retailer in Austria,” said
Peter Bosek, head of retail banking at the bank. “We would like to
offer our threem existing customers a new service and also aim to
acquire new customers.”

The bank will offer products
including a savings card with special conditions exclusively to OMV
customers, and allows Erste to tap into OMV’s huge customer base,
with around 200,000 customers visiting its 450 petrol stations
daily.

Erste is building on the success of
its partnership with German retail chain Tchibo) last January
(see RBI 606). Bosek
described the initiative as one of the bank’s best marketing
successes in Austria in recent years, quickly attracting more than
10,000 new savings customers.
