South Africa’s First National Bank (FNB) has revealed a "Slimline" ATM that offers digital banking features allowing customers to transfer funds and make online payments.
The Slimline ATM also has a touchscreen, a card reader for CHIP and PIN cards, and a numeric keypad.
The ATM does not dispense cash but customers are able to request a withdrawal slip which can then be cashed at the retailer’s till.
Aziz Cassim, head of Self Service Channels at FNB, said: "We created a unique ATM designed specifically for emerging market and lower income needs. Slimline also has great potential across all our market segments from personal to business and commercial due to its deep digital banking ability."
FNB has already installed 960 Slimline ATMs in South Africa, and is extending Slimlines across its Africa subsidiaries. Installations have started in Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Swaziland and Tanzania.
The Slimline is replacing FNB’s now-retired mini-ATMs which offered kiosk or voucher banking. The new ATM is to be used in locations where the volume of business would not support a conventional ATM.
