First National Savings and Loans Company (FNSL), a Ghana-based financial institution, is extending its banking services to unbanked Ghanaians in the rural and suburban regions by rolling out vans.
FNSL CEO Patrick Anumel was quoted by Peacefmonline.com as saying that the purpose of the mobile van banking is to find alternatives to the frustration customers go through at the banking hall.
According to statistics, around 70-80% of Ghanaians are unbanked and most of them are located in rural and suburban areas. The addition of mobile vans will allow the bank to offer its services to unbanked people at their doorsteps.
The vans also feature mobile point of sale (mPOS) device. Customers can use mobile vans to perform banking transactions such as withdraw and deposit money and funds transfer.
Anumel said the vans will move to market places, shopping centres, lorry stations, churches and public functions to engage the customers in business transactions.
"there are four vans at the moment and we have divided the operations of the banking into four zones; we have northern zone, central zone, south-western zone and south-eastern zone," Anumel added.

By GlobalData"There will be security agents assigned to each of the vans who will secretly follow the vans to safeguard the customers’ monies. It is our target to get a van for each of the ten regions and later move to each of the districts because we want to bring the bank closer to the doorstep of Ghanaians."
