Lloyds Banking Group has topped the list of bank complaints ranked by new complaint cases received by the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS). The FOS list was released today.

With more than 37,000 complaints between January and July 2011, Lloyds has again ranked as the most complained about bank, with complaints up by 50% from 22,000 in the previous six months and from over 12,500 in the same period last year.

Lloyds Banking Group is followed by Barclays with over 16,500 complaints. HSBC – including HFC – ranks third with over 13,000 complaints. Royal Bank of Scotland came next with over 12,000 complaints and Santander, including Santander Cards, has over 7000 complaints.

Complaints

The overwhelming majority of complaints against Lloyds Banking Group – including Lloyds TSB, Black Horse, Bank of Scotland and Cheltenham & Gloucester – were regarding concerns for the mis-selling of loan insurance.

However, Lloyds claims that it has improved customer relations in other areas and reduced the number of complaints made to the regulator regarding credit and debt products, excluding PPI.
