National Australia Bank (NAB) and
Visa have started a major roll-out of contactless payment readers
with a target of 2,500 in selected merchants over the next three
months.

The first stage of the deployment will involve
500 merchants in Melbourne. Customers will be able to pay for
purchases of up to A$100 by holding their Visa payWave-enabled
cards against readers. For transactions over those amounts,
signature or PIN will be required.

The payment information includes an encrypted
security code that is unique to each transaction.
