New Zealand-based bank ASB has introduced a biometric mobile app to allow people to sign up for an account using a selfie.
The newly introduced ASB ID mobile app will speed up the customer onboarding process by comparing their selfie with their passport or driver’s licence photos.
ASB partnered with VIX Verify to develop the verification platform of this biometric app.
Earlier this year ASB carried out a pilot programme to test the biometric ID app technology. Following its success, the bank decided on a nation-wide roll out of selfie account sign-up service.
ASB acting executive general manager retail Claire McKinnon said: “During our pilot, there were a lot of comments about how convenient the ASB ID app was for people wanting to join without the need to visit a branch.
“The app streamlines the process of opening an account with ASB, making it quicker and easier for our customers.
