British online peer-to peer (P2P) lender Zopa has set up a new development centre in Barcelona, Spain to support the launch of its bank.
The new facility will be used by developers to work on payment gateways, credit card processing, and deposit systems for the new bank.
The new centre in Barcelona will complement Zopa’s London Bridge-based development teams, with developers working on the bank to be split between both the countries.
Zopa head of bank build Didier Baclin said: “Our Barcelona development centre will give us access to some of the best software engineers in the world, allowing us to accelerate the development of the infrastructure we need to support the launch of our next generation bank.”
Zopa unveiled plans to launch an online-only bank in November 2016. Last week, the P2P lender completed a £32m funding round for the bank launch.
