US-based PNC Bank has completed year-long project to upgrade its national ATM network, with the installation of 3,600 ‘smart’ cash points.
The DepositEasy cash machines let customers deposit cheques and receive funds the same day, or deposit cash without using an envelope or deposit slip. Customers can also transfer funds between linked accounts, and withdraw £1 bills or choose to receive cash in $10 or $20 increments.
Ken Justice at PNC said the bank is always looking for innovative ways to make banking easier. ""Our ATM enhancements are another major investment to help customers bank when and where they want," he said.
Justice, who heads the bank’s ATM offering, said customers were responding well to the new cash points since they first rolled out in early 2012. "Prior to the completion of the ATM upgrades, deposits via ATM and mobile app increased 23% of PNC’s total deposits in the second quarter compared to 14% last year."
PNC has reached out to any technology adverse customers by providing instructional videos about online banking, mobile banking, mobile deposit, text banking and Popmoney – the bank’s mobile app for sending and receiving money – on its ‘Always Open’ webpage.
