Pennsylvania-based PNC bank has announced the introduction of a virtual wallet application for Windows 8.

Laptop, desktop and tablet users operating on the Microsoft platform will now be able to access the service via a compatible app, according to the bank.

PNC revealed the app will grant users secure access to their accounts, allowing them to shift funds between them, track and set up payments, and create savings goals.

Available at the Windows store free of charge, the virtual wallet app utilises a username and password to connect users’ device screen directly to their PNC bank account.

Mike Ley, senior vice president of digital experience at the PNC financial services group, said: "This app provides our customers a new way to access and interact with our most innovative banking tool, virtual wallet".

"While the demand for enhanced technology in banking grows, along with new developments in online platforms and programs, PNC is determined to research and develop the tools necessary to provide our customers the banking experience they desire", he added.

Headquartered in Pittsburgh, PNC bank is the 5th largest American bank by branches, with nearly 2500 outlets across the US.
