2009: pivotal decision to expand RBC Rewards
It was exactly a decade ago that RBC CEO David McKay set out to RBI his loyalty programme strategy. Back in 2009 RBC, expanded its already successful rewards programme to its entire consumer banking product categories. In particular, the programme extended beyond just the credit card sector, in contrast to its peer group.
Loyalty programmes are big business in Canada. 91% of Canadians are members of loyalty programmes, having 12 memberships on average, seven of which they actively use.
With more than five million RBC Rewards members it is an area RBC can claim to enjoy a world class product.
