Sparebanken Norge has forged a “strategic” alliance with Tietoevry Banking to enhance its technological infrastructure.

This collaboration aims to improve Sparebanken Norge’s competitive edge in a rapidly digitalising financial market.

Sparebanken Norge, which emerged from the merger of Sparebanken Vest and Sparebanken Sør, now stands as Norway’s largest savings bank.

The bank has 67 local branches and a strong digital presence, with a workforce of 1,500.

Tietoevry Banking will assist Sparebanken Norge in realising synergies from the recent merger.

This includes deploying a unified and modern core banking platform.

The partnership also provides the bank with access to “advanced” solutions for payments, card services, fraud detection, and tools to address financial crime.

These services are designed to comply with the highest standards of security and regulatory requirements, stated the tech vendor.

The agreement will last for five years, with an option for two additional extensions of two years each.

Sparebanken Norge incoming CEO Jan Erik Kjerpeseth said: “Sparebanken Norge aims to be a proactive and trusted partner to our customers. By combining strong local roots with modern digital solutions, we’re able to support customers in key moments of their lives.

“Technology is key to ensuring low-complexity operations and continued product and service innovation.

“This partnership gives us access to the tools and expertise we need to realize our ambition: becoming one of Norway’s most dynamic financial institutions across both retail and corporate markets.”

A key aspect of the tie-up is a joint operational model that promotes close cooperation, rapid decision-making, and quick time-to-market of new digital services, with digital loan processing being among the initial focus areas.

Tietoevry Banking managing director Endre Rangnes said: “Sparebanken Norge is a forward-leaning partner, committed to shaping the future of banking in Norway.

“Through close dialogue and agile execution, we’ll develop digital services that support a strong advisory role and local presence – enhancing the customer experience while giving bank employees smarter tools to focus on value-added services.”
