Turkish banks are increasingly focusing their
sales efforts on the youth and unbanked segment as well as the
distribution of alternative delivery channels.

Duygu Tavan of RBI met up with a
number of the country’s leading retail banking executives in early
April.

Despite sector-wide tensions following the
decisions by the Central Bank to increase reserve capital ratios
whilst simultaneously cutting interest rates, the general
impression was that the senior bankers RBI has spoken to
were not too worried about the this year’s earnings.

RBI kicks off its series of
interviews with Turkish banks with an interview with Hakan
Binbasgil, deputy CEO of Akbank and chief retail banking officer
and Tunc Akyurt, strategy executive vice president in charge of
CRM, product and channel development at Akbank.

The interview will be published in the next
issue of RBI and will be followed by interviews with
Garanti Payment Systems CEO Mehmet Sezgin and the assistant general
manager of Ziraat Bank, Soner Canko.

Other interviews include Enis Tuna, executive
vice president, card payment systems marketing and Murat Erdag,
senior vice president, self service channels management at
Belgium-based Dexia’s Turkey subsidiary Denizbank.
