American banking major Wells Fargo has restored majority of its banking services following major outage that denied customers access to their mobile and online banking accounts.
The number of customers affected due to the nationwide outage was not confirmed by the bank.
In a statement, the bank stated: “We continue to work on restoring all our services as soon as possible, and encourage customers to contact us if they have questions or concerns.
“We apologise for the inconvenience caused by these system issues, and we want our customers to know that any Wells Fargo fees incurred as a result of these issues will be reversed.”

The outage was caused due to smoke at one of the bank’s data centres in Minnesota.
In a Twitter post, the bank said: “We’re experiencing system issues due to a power shutdown at one of our facilities, initiated after smoke was detected following routine maintenance.”

Besides online and mobile banking, several customers also faced problem in using ATMs.
Later, Wells Fargo announced the most of the services are operational, however, some features on mobile and online banking systems were yet to be restored.
The Wells Fargo banking outage is the latest in the series of banking outages faced by major banks globally in the last one year.
Earlier, Australia’s NAB and CBA reported similar outages. The UK’s TSB faced several IT failures in the last one year following a botched technology upgrade.
